For over a decade, I have dedicated myself to the performance of music
of the 20th/21st century.
Looking back, I probably inherited this passion from my father who devoted
himself to contemporary music as a professional harpist in France during
the sixties and seventies. The desire to form a contemporary chamber
ensemble and continue in the family tradition had been with me for quite
a long time. Moreover, I was particularly interested in creating an ensemble
that conveys the richness and intensity of multiple cellos.
During my years at the Eastman School of Music, I had the great fortune
of meeting a group of incredible cellists, who share a mutual commitment
to new music through the performance of new works for cello ensemble
by American composers.
I am eternally grateful to my dear collegues for
having brought Tarab Cello Ensemble to life, and for insuring that it
continues to thrive.
An additional group of musicians that deserve the ensemble’s
gratitude are the composers. Having found inspiration in the sound of
multiple cellos, these artists have gone on to create remarkable pieces,
which continue to invigorate us.
